This volume seeks to examine the potential for building relationships among foreign language, bilingual, and ESL programs with the goal of fostering bilingualism. Part I of the volume examines the sociopolitical contexts for language partnerships including: *current obstacles to developing bilingualism; *implications of acculturation, identity, and language issues for linguistic minorities; *the potential for developing partnerships across primary, secondary, and tertiary instructions. Part II of the volume provides research findings on the Foreign Language Partnership Project, which was designed to capitalize on the resources of immigrant students to enhance foreign language learning. |
