In 1946 the United States used Bikini Atoll for testing and development of nuclear weapons. To the Bikinians, the modern world has been less kind. They have had to adopt a post-bomb, subsidised life in an island suburbia hundred of miles from their island home. We see the special strains produced in these people between technologies and traditions.
