The overall goal of the Mitiaro Project is to improve the quality of life on the island and to assist the people in determining their own development horizons given the constraints they must constantly live with. Community participation is intrinsic to the progress of the project and close consultations with the people was observed throughout the three years of the projects planning and implementation. The agriculture sector was identified by the people as the sector requiring concentrated assistance. The integration of the various sectors of this microeconomy became possible through an agriculture based directive. Women, youth, health and nutrition and developments in income-earning opportunities were encouraged through this directive. The video provides a brief insight into the project and the multidiscplinary approach at regional, government and local level. |
