NOTES: |
This film deals with the species Australopithecus robustus. It particularly addresses the concept that speciation can lead to species extinction due to isolation of the groups, both genetically and environmentally. It also addresses the life of a robustus as a vegetarian savanna dweller, a species without the use of tools or fire that co-existed in a predator competitive environment along side of homo hablis. This co-existence may have lasted over one million years. A. robustus became extinct to be permanently supplanted by our closest ancestors Homo hablis. The video shows excellent photography of the animals and mosaic environments of Africa as they may have been during the life of a robustus of the lower Pleistocene epoch. |
