"The men approaching Ngatik Atoll in July of 1837 were not concerned with its beauty. They were after two things: valuable green turtleshell, and bloody revenge. There was little of the valuable shell on Ngatik, but the crew of the Lambton, under its Master C.H. Hart, took its revenge in full. The entire male population of Ngatik Atoll was killed, many women were taken away." |
