NOTES: |
The Ancient Town of Phoenix is located in the high mountains at the juncture of Hunan Province and Guizhou Province. Thanks to the border of natural mountains and water, this small town has been little affected by the outside world and retained the style of the Ming Dynasty, of 300 years ago. On the banks of the Tuojiang River, the friendly and down-to-earth local people live a simple and peaceful life. They walk through old alleys and houses and are vessels of colorful, traditional folklore and craftsmanship. This is the "Land of the Peach Blossoms" described in the works of Shen Congwen, a master of Chinese literature. |
