REVOLUTION AND ROMANTICS (30:00) Revolution became the European norm as the Romantic artists and writers spread the concept that violence was acceptable to achive justice for the people. Politics became infused with nationalism as the upper and middle classes joined the revolts. Program 44. (30:00) Western European countries express their spirits of nationalism, rivalry, and social utilitarianism in worldwide colonial empires. As the 19th century ends, these empires collide and collapse as national revolts spread eastward. |
