Yet by the 18th century, the British colonies in America became restive under restrictions imposed by England. Featured images include the Palladian architecture of Thomas Jefferson. THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC (30:00) The two strands of political thought exemplified by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence and Alexander Hamilton in the Constitution wove the fabric of a new nation. Weber discusses universal freedoms and the republican virtues of rational, enlightened harmony.
