THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (30:00) From the moment of its discovery, America became a symbol of European dreams and ideals. Yet by the 18th century, the British colonies in America became restive under restrictions imposed by England. Featured images include the Palladian architecture of Thomas Jefferson. THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC (30:00) The two strands of political thought exemplified by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence and Alexander Hamilton in the Constitution wove the fabric of a new nation. Weber discusses universal freedoms and the republican virtues of rational, enlightened harmony. |
