NOTES: |
The areas of influence surrounding a magnet are demonstrated using iron filings and a magnet. Also presented in experiment form are characteristics of magnets demonstrated by the patterns formed by the iron filings, the movements of compass needles, the changes in force direction of iron sand samples when North and South poles are alternated. A ring magnet is broken into pieces and the magnetic properties of the pieces tested, revealing that each piece of a magnet will function as a whole magnet. The final experiment presents proof that magnets are surrounded by a 3-dimensional force field. |
