This program investigates the American ' dream family', an endangered species. Less than 5% of American households fit the profile of the traditional nuclear family - working father, wife/mother who stays home to take care of the house and children. Broken homes, battered wives, estranged children, corporate nomads, - these are today's commonplaces. Whether their parents are making their way up the corporate ladder, their fathers' jobs are threatened by the decline in heavy industry, or the family farm is being sold, it is the children who bear the heaviest burden, for the pressures on them are often in direct conflict with one of the human animal's most basic needs - to be loved for what he is. |
