Episode 1: The air around us, Temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind cloud cover, and visibility. Weather stations around the world watch, monitor, and collect meteorological data. The Air around Us demonstrates how weather conditions affect us everyday, whether we are indoors or outdoors. Students discover that weather can be considered "good" or "bad" depending on where you live and how you make your living...Episode 2: Differences in temperature, demonstrates how latitude altitude, distance from the sea, aspect, and ocean currents affect the temperature. Students will understand why weather changes throughout the day and as the seasons change, how weather differs between the Equator and the Poles, and concepts such as how hot air rises and how winds flow across the earth's surface...Episode 3: Why does it rain?, illustrates why it rains, the different kinds of rain, why and where fog and mist occur, the properties of water, and the differences in rainfall across the globe...Episode 4: Climates in the tropics takes students to the equatorial zone, where the sun is always high in the sky during the day and, if there are seasons at all, they are the wet and the dry seasons. Students explore the Amazon Basin, the tropic of cancer, and the tropic of Capricorn. They also learn about the water cycle in the tropical forest, and the forest's importance to maintaining the climate and soils of tropical areas. Episode 5: Climate in Europe compares and contrasts the northwest European and Mediterranean climates. Students become familiar with weather terms, such as high and low pressure, depressions, and fronts, and learn why rain will occur close to fronts.. The program explores how Europe is affected by its location on the globe, sandwiched between the cold air of the Artic and the warmer air of the Equator. |
