While digging a foundation for skyscrapper, New York City construction workers unearthed a centuries-old slave grave-yard containing 427 bodies. This program documents the archeological dig and the research that slaves not only built New York but were literally worked to death. The historic journey continues in Colonial Williamburg and Nashville. African-American historical archaeologists discuss how American's system of slavery was designed to rob Africans of their identity, and how slaves held on to their traditions despite the cruel system. |
