NOTES: On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by terrorists at the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Three thousand Americans would die that day, surpassing the death toll at Pearl Harbor. America would strike back, assembling an unprecedented Allied retaliation force; an operation called "Operation Enduring Freedom." This awesome high-tech fury would be launched against the Taliban, Sheik Omar, Osama bin Laden and the forces of terrorism around the world, as represented by Bin Laden's terrorist organization, al-Qaida. On September 20, 2001, President George W. Bush galvanized the nation to this mission by responding to September 11, declaring the future war against terrorism and to rid the world of the "evildoers" of the Taliban, Sheik Omar and Osama bin Laden.
