Regional and national educators explore research-based effective practices for teaching reading to diverse student populations. The video can help expand understanding of research-based strategies for teaching reading to English language learners in linguistically diverse settings. Viewers see classrooms from three Pacific island communities; Kosrae, where initial reading is taught in Kosraean; American Samoa, where English is the language of instruction, and Samoan is used for support; and Hawai'i, where English-speaking students are taught though immersion in Hawaiian.
